The blue dasher turns his body to face the sun in order to make the frosty looking luminescence on his body flash a bright warning to other dragonflies to stay away from his turf.

I used mineral violet, cobalt blue, and Interference copper and zinc white gouache to create the frosty looking luminescence on his body.
